Walking on Water
Matthew 13:1“The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.”
This scripture is simple, and it doesn't contain any significant gospel principles. Its only purpose is to depict the atmosphere of the moment and set the scene for readers, but it is my favorite scripture. I can picture the Savior sitting on a modest untouched beach, with warm sand and a bright sun shining above. The sky is clear and small waves calmly trickle in and out.
I grew up spending hours on the beach every summer in Southern California, so the ocean has a special place in my heart, as it does for many people. That said, it’s probably obvious why “Walking on Water” is one of the first pieces of religious artwork I created. This piece romanticizes the well-known Biblical story with a pink sky and a sparkling sun behind the Savior. I wanted to create something that related the peace I gain from spending time by the ocean with the spiritual peace I gain from the Savior.
There’s not much on earth that compares to the peace we can have with Jesus Christ, but the ocean gets close.
