First Vision
I was surprised to learn that early spring in Palmyra, New York probably didn’t look like the luscious green environment most people are used to imagining in the story of the First Vision. It’s more likely that everything was still fairly dull and brown coming out of winter, so I decided I wanted to focus on the feeling of that moment rather than the beauty of the surroundings. Joseph’s silhouette fades into the background and there is more emphasis on the light, giving it a greater atmospheric appeal.
Creating this helped me to recognize the beauty of this moment from a different perspective. Regardless of what the environment was like, Jospeh's world was filled with unimaginable wonder and glory in that moment.(See Pearl of Great Price: Joseph Smith History)
